Sewology FAQ

Before I get into answering some questions about Sewology, I first want to take a second to thank everyone for the amazing response to this pattern so far. It has exceeded all of my expectations and I am so incredibly thankful for it! Thank you!! 💗

I will update this list as the year goes on, but for now, here are the most frequently asked questions I've been getting about Sewology! If you need me to expand on any of them or have a question that wasn't asked below, please feel free to email me at penandpaperpatterns@gmail.com!

How do I purchase the pattern?

August 15th, 2017 is the official launch date of the Sewology pattern! You will be able to purchase the PDF pattern, starting August 15th, through my Etsy shop [https://www.etsy.com/listing/623025020/sewology-block-of-the-month-pattern].

What will the cost of the pattern be?

The cost for the entire pattern that includes the intro and all 12 block patterns as they are released during the year is $25.

What is included with the pattern?

Even though block patterns will be released on a monthly basis from September 15th, 2017 - August 15th, 2018, I designed the pattern to feel and read like an e-book. When you purchase the pattern on August 15th, 2017, you will be given the "introduction" to the pattern. The ten-page introduction includes information pertaining to the pattern such as:

1. The techniques used in the quilt and instructions for how to execute them.
2. Five different color scheme ideas. As well as material requirements & fabric suggestions for each of them!
3. A coloring page for coming up with your own unique color scheme 🖍
4. Detailed instructions for how-to download your PDF block patterns every month as well as a link for joining the Sewology Facebook group where you can share your progress and get advice from other Sewology members!
5. And, finally, a block schedule so you know exactly what months to expect each block.

Is foundation paper piecing (FPP) used in this pattern?

There is NO paper piecing in any of the blocks of this pattern! I know that will be good news to a lot of you 😉 There are other techniques used in the quilt such as - flying geese, half square triangles, raw edge and bias tape applique. I go over each technique in the introduction and I will also be demonstrating the trickier techniques in a live broadcast from the Sewology Facebook group during the year!

How big is the quilt?

The Sewology quilt finishes 70 3/4" x 84 1/4"

What is the difficulty level of this quilt?

If you are an ambitious beginner quilter and up, this quilt is perfect for you! There are no blocks that use paper piecing or any other more advanced technique. And, the techniques that are used in the quilt are very easy to learn and described in detail in the pattern. The more challenging techniques in the quilt are the raw edge and bias tape applique - which are used in one block each. I will be going over those techniques in even more detail in a live broadcast from the Sewology Facebook group 😊

Can my local quilt shop participate in this sew along?

Yes! More information regarding that can be found HERE.

  3. I know this may be a stupid question, but by brick and mortar you mean that online fabric stores will not be included? I own an online fabric shop that will be opening on September 1 and I would love for this pattern to be our first QAL! :-)

    1. Kits might be happening! Working that out now...There will definitely be a fabric requirement list on the pattern cover for this version and it lists exactly what colors I used and how much you will need of each one.

  6. I'm having trouble figuring out which colors go where. The pattern mentions the colors you used, but not where you use them (by name), and some of the colors are similar (to my eye), thus difficulties. In the seam ripper, which gray are you using?

  7. Is the entire quilt pattern available now? As a whole? Meaning not month by month?
